Prerequisites: ART 115, ART 116, and PD 223

Course Fee: $149.00 + $25.00 per credit

Recommended Textbook: The SolidWorks Bible by Matt Lombard

Recommended Tool: 1 TB Hard Drive

Course Description

This course meshes virtual and physical design as students complete projects using computer-aided design and manufacturing software and equipment. Students digitally design with software based tools and techniques to 3D model and render products using SolidWorks and KeyShot. The techniques developed during this course facilitate communication between designers, engineers, and clients and are applicable to a wide variety of industrial CAD and product design industries worldwide.

Course Content

Students will demonstrate their design abilities using SolidWorks and KeyShot by engaging in lectures and demonstrations, working through custom 3D modeling tutorials, completing design projects, rendering work to create high quality product presentations, and creating technical drawings to aid in fabrication and mass manufacturing processes. Students will then demonstrate their knowledge of 3D printing by learning how to design, model, and prepare files for these manufacturing processes. Accuracy and precision will be emphasized throughout this course to ensure students receive industry standard training while working through each project. By the end of this course, students will be prepared to complete the Certified SolidWorks Associate exam to become CSWA certified.
